Can You Do Microneedling and Sylfirm in the Summer?

Every summer, we start hearing the same question:

"Should I wait until fall?" ,“Will the sun ruin my results?”, “Can I still enjoy the summer?”

Whether someone is considering Microneedling for acne scars, Sylfirm for redness or skin tightening, or simply wants to improve their overall skin quality, there seems to be a belief that these treatments need to be packed away for the summer and revisited once sweater weather returns.

The good news? For most people, that's simply not true.

At Subtle Enhancements, we perform both microneedling and Sylfirm year-round. In fact, many of our patients continue their treatment plans throughout the summer because consistency often produces better results than stopping for several months and starting over again in the fall.

The catch isn't the treatment itself, it's how you care for your skin afterward.

Where This Myth Comes From

To be fair, this myth didn't come from nowhere.

After treatments like microneedling and Sylfirm, your skin goes through a natural healing process. During that time, it's more vulnerable to UV exposure, which makes diligent sun protection especially important.

Over time, that advice became simplified into:

"Don't do these treatments in the summer."

But that's not what the research says. The concern has never been summer itself, the concern has always been protecting your skin while it heals.

What the Research Actually Shows

Microneedling remains one of the most studied collagen-induction therapies available today. Research consistently demonstrates improvements in acne scarring, skin texture, laxity, and overall skin quality through the stimulation of new collagen production.

Sylfirm builds on that foundation by combining microneedling with radiofrequency energy, allowing us to address concerns such as redness, pigmentation, skin laxity, and acne scarring while continuing to support collagen remodeling beneath the surface.

So, what does that mean?

That doing microneedling and RF microneedling should be avoided all summer is simply not true.

What matters when doing these treatments isn't the season. It's how well you protect your skin while it heals. With appropriate aftercare and diligent sun protection, these treatments can be performed safely, and consistently, year-round.

Protecting Your Results During the Summer

So if you don't need to stop treatments during the summer...

What should change? Your commitment to protecting your skin!

This is the season where SPF, hats, shade, and reapplication matter the most. Not because your treatments suddenly become unsafe, but because you're investing in collagen and healthier skin that's worth protecting.

That doesn't mean avoiding patios, beaches, cottage weekends, or time outside.

It simply means being intentional.

Wear your sunscreen every day. Reapply when you're outdoors for extended periods. Throw on a hat when you can, and avoid prolonged direct sun exposure immediately after treatment.

Healthy skin doesn't require you to stop living your life, it just asks you to protect it while you do.

If you're investing in treatments like microneedling or Sylfirm, sunscreen isn't optional. It's one of the simplest ways to maintain your results and support healthy skin long-term.

Collagen stimulation is only one piece of the puzzle.

Treatments stimulate change. Your home routine helps maintain it.

To get the most from treatments like microneedling and Sylfirm, we always pair them with evidence-based skincare that supports healing, encourages collagen production, and helps maintain your results long after you leave the clinic.

Result of Consistency:

One of the best examples of this is melasma.

Our patient had struggled with melasma for years, because melasma is a chronic condition. The goal isn't simply to clear it, but to educate and manage it over time. By combining Sylfirm X with targeted skincare, daily tinted SPF, and small lifestyle changes, we were able to significantly improve her pigmentation and gave her a plan to help keep it that way.

Consistency Will Always Win

One of the reasons treatments like microneedling, Sylfirm, retinol, and SPF continue to stand the test of time is because they aren't trends.

They're supported by decades of research and years of real-world results. The patients who see the best outcomes are rarely the ones chasing the newest thing; they're the ones who stay consistent.

That's why our advice doesn't change much when summer arrives. We still focus on collagen stimulation, skin quality, prevention, and long-term planning.

We just add a little extra emphasis on sun protection.

Because when it comes to healthy skin, consistency will always matter more than the season.

Not Sure Where to Start?

One of the biggest misconceptions in aesthetics is that there's a single "best" treatment for everyone.

The reality is that great results rarely come from one treatment alone. They come from understanding your skin, your concerns, your lifestyle, and building a plan that makes sense for you.

That's why every patient journey at Subtle Enhancements starts with a consultation.

Whether you're considering microneedling, Sylfirm, skincare, or simply want guidance on what would have the biggest impact, a consultation allows us to assess your skin as a whole and create a personalized roadmap based on your goals.
