A Thoughtful Approach to Aging Well (And Why I Started With My Own Mom)

If you’ve ever thought about bringing your mom in for a consultation, you’re not alone.

It usually comes up in a very specific way.

Someone will mention that their mom looks a little more tired lately, or that her skin doesn’t feel as firm as it used to. They want to help, but they’re also cautious. They don’t want her to look different, and they definitely don’t want anything that feels obvious or overdone.

That hesitation is valid, and honestly, it’s something we agree with.

Because the goal has never been to change how someone looks. It’s to support how they age in a way that still feels like them.

Most People Don’t Need More Treatment. They Need a Plan.

One of the biggest misconceptions we see is the idea that a single treatment will fix everything.

In reality, the best results don’t come from doing more. They come from doing the right things, at the right time, in the right order.

Lately, a lot of those conversations have been centered around Sculptra.

Sculptra is very different from what most people expect when they think about injectables. It doesn’t give you an immediate result, and it isn’t meant to. Instead, it works by stimulating your own collagen over time, gradually improving structure, support, and overall skin quality.

That also means it requires a different mindset.
It’s not about quick changes. It’s about building something that lasts.

Why We Always Start With a Consultation

Treatments like Sculptra are not one-size-fits-all.

Some people are great candidates. Others benefit more from starting somewhere else. The only way to know is by taking the time to assess what’s actually happening in the skin and what kind of outcome someone is hoping for.

A consultation isn’t just a formality. It’s where we map out the plan.

We look at things like:

  • how the face is aging as a whole

  • where volume loss is happening

  • what will make the biggest difference long-term

From there, we build something that feels realistic and maintainable.

What This Looks Like in Real Life

This is exactly the approach I’ve taken with my own mom.

We started her on Sculptra in her 50s, using 5 vials spaced appropriately to build a foundation. Since then, we’ve maintained her results with about 2 vials per year.

There wasn’t a dramatic “before and after” moment. What happened instead was more subtle. Her skin gradually looked stronger, her structure felt more supported, and overall, she just looked like a well-rested version of herself.

It’s been consistent, natural, and something she’s genuinely enjoyed. That’s always the goal!

Why One Treatment Is Never the Whole Plan

Even when Sculptra is the right fit, it’s never the only piece.

The best outcomes come from layering treatments in a way that makes sense.

That might include:

  • Sculptra to rebuild structure and collagen

  • treatments like Sylfirm to improve skin quality, texture, and tone

  • a simple, consistent skincare routine at home

Each piece does something different, and together, they create a more complete result.

Hilary's mom, Lori, has been doing Sculptra annually since 2022.

What You Do at Home Matters More Than You Think

In-clinic treatments are important, but they’re only part of the picture.

What you do daily at home has a significant impact on how your skin responds and how long your results last. At-home skincare is about 80% of the work!

We prefer to keep it simple and focused on what works:

  • Vitamin C helps protect and support collagen

  • Retinol helps stimulate collagen production

  • SPF protects your skin from ongoing breakdown

It’s not complicated, but consistency here is what allows everything else to work better. All other products are just bonuses!

We also offer the SkinCeuticals SkinClub; each purchase is tracked for you in the clinic. Once you hit 10 items, you get the 11th free!

A Different Way to Think About Mother’s Day

For a lot of people, Mother’s Day is about gifts.

But sometimes, it can also be an opportunity to introduce something that supports your mom in a more lasting way.

Not a treatment, or a commitment. Just a conversation to address what might be bothering mom.

A consultation is often the best place to start, because it allows us to understand what she’s noticing, what she’s comfortable with, and what would actually make sense for her.

From there, everything is guided. Nothing is rushed. Our goal is to make mom feel like her best self every day.

Where to Start?

If this is something you’ve been thinking about, the best next step is to book a consultation.

We’ll walk through everything together and create a plan that feels natural, realistic, and aligned with what she actually wants.

No pressure, just a starting point.
